HUMAN FACTORS CASTDIGITAL MEDIA LAB

Contribute

Put your skills to work. Build new ones.

Help communicate human factors through podcasts, videos, articles, and public resources. We welcome people from all backgrounds, including anyone new to human factors or science communication.

Students, practitioners, career changers, researchers, designers, writers, coders, and media creators can all contribute. Tell us what you enjoy and what you want to learn.

What you can gain

Experience you can
build on and share.

Learn through shared projects with people working across human factors, research, design, and media.

Skills through practice

Practice research, writing, media production, design, or coding through work that helps people understand human factors.

Mentorship & feedback

Learn from experienced contributors. Discuss ideas, ask questions, and get feedback as you develop your work.

Credit & portfolio work

Receive credit for your contributions and opportunities to use published work in your portfolio. Build examples that show what you did and why it matters.

Connections across fields

Collaborate with people from different backgrounds and learn how their perspectives inform science communication.

Commitment & communication

Flexible by project.
Stay in touch.

This is a remote volunteer opportunity. We agree on tasks, timing, and communication touchpoints around your availability. There is no fixed weekly minimum.

You don’t need a finished portfolio or experience in every area to apply.

What we ask of members

  • Share regular updates. Let teammates know what you’ve done, what comes next, and what is blocking progress—even when progress is slow.
  • Keep agreed touchpoints. Participate in check-ins or share a written update when you can’t attend. Flag changes in your availability early.
  • Take initiative and ask for help. Work on your agreed tasks, seek guidance when you’re stuck, and suggest ideas that support science communication.
  • Collaborate respectfully. Welcome different backgrounds and perspectives, give constructive feedback, and credit others’ work. Harassment and discrimination have no place in the lab.

Personal responsibilities come first. Communicating a change helps the team adjust plans and keep work moving.
